This cartridge features Hornady’s very own HP Match projectile. The 55 grain bullet will attain a muzzle velocity of 3,240 fps when fired from a 24” barrel, which makes its recoil and in-flight ballistics pretty comparable to the U.S. Army’s 5.56 M193 load.

But the HP Match isn’t any regular old full metal jacket bullet. Its lead core was allowed to solidify within its jacket, so its weight is very evenly distributed. Alongside Hornady’s famously concentric jacket, this is one well balanced bullet!

The HP Match is not to be confused for a bullet that expands inside soft tissue. Its terminal ballistics are in fact comparable to those of an FMJ, so don’t use this ammo for hunting anything but the smallest critters. (A 55 grain 223 bullet’s impact energy alone is enough to send a 10 pound critter flying.)
