357 MAGNUM SPEER GOLD DOT SHORT BARREL 135 GRAIN JHP (200 ROUNDS)
Power – in a compact package. The short-barrel 357 Magnum revolver rules the roost! But it has got its setbacks. First and foremost? That short barrel, which gives propellant comparably shorter time to push against the bullet, resulting in lower muzzle velocity.
Speer, which has been in business in 1943, knows this. That’s precisely why the Idahoan company and frequent supplier to law enforcement designed this special Gold Dot Short Barrel ammunition. Its 135 grain bullet’s muzzle velocity out of a 2” vented (to simulate cylinder gap) test barrel is normal at 990 fps. But because the special Gold Dot bullet has been fine-tuned to achieve expansion upon lower-velocity impact, it’s equipped to exhibit more favorable terminal ballistics for self-defense than a standard JHP, or even a wadcutter.
Gold Dot Short Barrel ammo has all the same bells and whistles as regular Gold Dot. Electrochemically bonded and extra tough JHP? Propellant that reduces (but doesn’t necessarily eliminate) muzzle flash? Nickel-plated brass cases that slide extra smoothly out of a chamber? Check, check and check!
