About This Armscor 5.56x45mm Ammunition
THIS IS SUBSONIC AMMUNITION. IT DOES NOT CYCLE A SEMI-AUTO.Crying babies in restaurants. Wisecracking teenagers in movie theaters. My mother-in-law, who must’ve been vaccinated with a phonograph needle. People! They’re a bunch of noisy creatures, are they not?
Thank goodness Armscor knows we want a little peace and quiet from time to time. That’s why they loaded this 5.56x45 target cartridge to subsonic muzzle velocity: 25 fps short of the speed of sound when the barrel’s 18” long.
Subsonic muzzle velocity equals much softer report. And guess which kind of report a suppressor is most effective at suppressing? That’s right! A softer one.
This may go without saying, but this cartridge is extraordinarily feeble. Muzzle energy is 207 ft lbs, which is only a little stronger than a hyper-velocity 22 LR. That’s indicative of the round’s inability to cycle a semi-auto. That’s also why you’ll have hard luck trying to cover any distance farther than 100 yards.
It is a really good bullet, though. A 77 grain Hornady open tip match, no less, which would have been suitable for match shooting if it weren’t backed by so little powder. No terminal expansion to speak of, though. We meant it when we underscored “target” earlier in this product description.
