You can put your faith in Winchester’s NATO spec, American-made 5.56x45 M855 ammo!Don’t take this ammo to any ranges which prohibit magnetic projectiles, though. The M855 bullet’s lead core is fortified by the addition of a seven-grain steel tip, which is the reason behind its ability to pierce 0.12” thick sheet metal at distances up to around 2,000 feet.
Whereas the M193 FMJ weighs 55 grains, the M855 FMJ tips the scale at 62 grains. This increases its momentum to promote a flatter downrange trajectory, and also raises its sectional density to ensure deeper penetration of soft tissue.
This ammo’s brass cases are fresh out of the factory – not tarnished or reloaded. Any gray you see around the cases’ necks and shoulders is simply there because the brass was annealed for added durability. This non-corrosive Boxer-primed ammo can be reloaded several times.
