This is Winchester’s military-grade M855 spec ammunition. Most importantly, that means it will attract a magnet. But the solid steel beneath the FMJ jacket’s tip actually serves an important purpose! The “penetrator” bullet lives up to its name because its tip is solid enough to bore through 1/8” thick sheet metal at ranges up to about 2,000 feet. The bullet’s 62 grain weight also gives it greater momentum, which can help it to penetrate deeper as well as resist wind deflection.

There’s nothing magnetic about this ammo’s cases, though. Those are brand new and pure brass cases, and they only look a little weather-beaten because they have been heat-treated for added robustness without getting polished up afterward.
