About This Speer 9mm Luger Ammunition
We would usually feature how a projectile’s copper and lead elements suit it for self-defense, but this 9mm cartridge by Speer begs that we first sing the praises of elastomer. This round’s 147 grain Gold Dot G2 bullet’s shallow nose cavity is filled with a pliant substance which keeps it from jamming up with debris before it can penetrate its target, preserving its ability to commence wide mushrooming. That elastomer further promotes expansion by wedging into the core’s integral fissures, forcing them apart to yield multiple deadly cutting petals. This isn’t to say that the bullet’s metal components aren’t pulling their weight. The core is pressure formed to make it tougher and better able to penetrate deeply, and its jacket has been applied electrochemically to improve rotational stability and weight retention. Nickel serves a big role in this round as well -- the sleek metal plates the brass casing to enhance its lubricity for more reliable feeding and extraction, and also serves to resist corrosion. It’s a perfectly constructed cartridge which you’ll feel better for having in your EDC’s magazine!
