If you’re using #9 shot and want a little more punch downrange – or #8 shot, and want a slightly denser pattern – then you’ll find that #8.5 shot splits the difference quite nicely. Even nicer is the lead-antimony alloy each pellet is made of. When lead is alloyed with 5% percent antimony, it doesn’t lose the density it needs to pulverize clay. It does become significantly more resistant to deformation, though, which is why a High Over All shell’s pattern is so impressively consistent.
