Why are deer and home invaders alike not fans of Fiocchi Exacta 12 Gauge #4 buckshot ammunition? Because…It’s powerful. This shell is loaded to a ripping hot muzzle velocity of 1,325 fps – spicier than most any target load – and unleashes an absolute swarm of buckshot. That’s #4 buckshot, specifically. One pellet of #4 buck is 0.09” narrower in diameter than the classic double-aught alternative. That means each piece hits with relatively less force. That also means this 2-3/4” shell holds 18 or 19 more pieces of shot than a double-aught load of the same size, which translates to a far thicker pattern. Smaller buckshot doesn’t just put more holes into the target, either. It is also better equipped for hunting in densely wooded areas, and less capable of penetrating multiple walls than larger shot.
Fiocchi gives this shell an extra advantage that you may not be able to see through its translucent hull: nickel plating. Each pellet is armored against deformation, thus helping it conserve sphericity during ignition to promote tighter patterning, as well as conserve the same after impact to promote deeper penetration through flesh.
