A weaker propellant charge? A lighter shot column? Yes and yes! This round only accelerates its shot column to a velocity of 1,150 fps, which is just ~25 fps faster than the speed of sound. Its shot column does contain nine pellets, which is normal, but those pellets are #1 buck – each 13.3 grains lighter than traditional 00 buck. The net result is a shell that doesn’t kick nearly as hard, and which also avoids very sharp muzzle rise. That’s ideal when you want to keep your aim trained on a target that intends to do you immediate bodily harm.
We can’t recommend this ammo for all semi-automatic shotguns. Some self-loaders may function correctly with 2-1/2 dram ammo, but yours may not.
Fiocchi’s high-quality shotshells come packaged in a plastic field box. It’s not as rugged as a mil spec steel ammo can, but it’s a nice added bonus all the same!
