This 17 HMR Varmint Express cartridge features Hornady’s own 20 grain eXtreme Terminal Performance projectile. The jacketed hollow point wears a drawn gilding metal jacket that shields its rim to ensure reliable feeding in semi-automatics. The concentric jacket promotes excellent rotational stability, and its narrow meplat dissects a neat channel through the air. This is a 0.125 G1 ballistic coefficient projectile, and accordingly stays supersonic until nearly 250 yards (assuming your rifle has a 24” barrel, which is what Hornady used to measure the round’s 2,375 fps muzzle velocity).

The XTP isn’t merely match-accurate. The little JHP’s jacket tapers off to a thin rim that enables massive terminal fragmentation. Even at lower velocities, the XTP absolutely dominates small game! This ammo is also loaded with the uniform brass, powder charges and primers that deliver reliable functionality in all makes and models of firearms.
