This cartridge’s 40 grain bullet is backed by Remington’s high-quality primer and clean-burning propellant. The explosives only accelerate the bullet to a muzzle velocity of 1,050 fps (in a rifle). That’s 75 fps too slow to break the speed of sound – hence the round’s softer report.

The subsonic bullet does follow a pretty steep trajectory. If your sights are 1.5” above the bore line and you aim to a 50-yard zero, you can expect -8.6” drop at 100 yards. On the plus side, this ammo’s trajectories are highly consistent. A subsonic bullet completely avoids wobbling as a result of transitioning from supersonic to subsonic velocity!
