About This Hornady 300 AAC Blackout Ammunition
We did the math. If you were to extract all 31 tons of copper from the Statue of Liberty, you would have enough to make 3,945,454 individual 110 grain solid copper bullets. If you only need 20 of them for your 300 AAC Blackout hunting rifle, then you’ve just hit the jackpot.
Our math is approximate, of course. Lady Liberty contains roughly 31 tons of Cu, and you would need slightly less than 110 grains of the stuff to make a Hornady Copper alloy eXpanding projectile. This is because the bullet includes a polymer tip: the Heat Shield, which won’t deform under intense heat so as to preserve its low-drag DVRT flat point, and is hard to help drive faster and wider expansion on impact.
One of copper’s great qualities is its excellent ductility – the reason it’s easy to shape, and for the CX’s 95% or higher weight retention on impact. Copper is also nontoxic, which entitles you to hunt with Hornady Custom 300 BLK wherever your travels deposit you.
