300 WIN MAG SELLIER & BELLOT 180 GRAIN SPCE (400 ROUNDS)
Imagine you have a 24-ounce can of beer (or lemonade, if you don’t drink). Now, imagine you also have the nose cone from a model rocket, the base of which is a touch narrower than the diameter of the can. Place the nose cone on top of the can. Take a step back. Admire your work. You have stacked two objects in a way that sort of resembles the shape of a soft point cutting edge (SPCE) bullet. The “can” part of the SPCE has a flat base. Its rim, being wider than the base of the “nose cone,” sticks out a little to form a small shoulder. This is the “cutting edge,” which literally punches a .308” diameter hole through the quarry’s hide. This harms the quarry considerably more than the slopey profile of a traditional SP bullet would have.
The “nose cone” harms the quarry even more. Its soft lead core is exposed at its tip, thus enabling it to splay outward, exert more of the bullet’s energy laterally, and punch out a wider wound column than .308” following impact.
That, in a nutshell, is how the SPCE works. Sellier & Bellot loads many cartridges with this style of projectile. This one, being a 300 Winchester Magnum, has the following stats: 2,936 fps MV (23.5” barrel); 0.353 G1 BC; 0.271 sectional density; 528.5 power factor; 3.339” OAL. This ammo is made in the Czech Republic; new, reloadable, and noncorrosive; and packaged 20 boxes per case of 1,000 rounds. Shipping: free.
