This cartridge’s 300 grain projectile is a “target hollow point.” That’s Federal’s way of saying it’s not built to enter deep, expand wide, or otherwise behave as a hunting bullet ought to. No varmint alive will survive a close encounter with any 300 grain bullet, expanding or otherwise, but it’s really not the ticket for deer hunting.

But that’s not the point of this ammo. The point is its subsonic muzzle velocity: 1,000 fps, which, as any expert on the speed of sound will inform you, is roughly 125 fps lower than the thing in which they have so much expertise. This ammo doesn’t go “KRACK” on ignition. Its report is therefore exactly what a suppressor likes muffling best. And if you like low recoil, then you’ll really like what you feel when you squeeze off a shot.
