About This Hornady 45-70 Government Ammunition
I just drank three energy drinks and a glass of whole milk, and I still don’t have enough energy to explain just how cool Hornady Subsonic ammo is. Maybe if I go outside and stand in the sun for a second…I just realized it is 1 o’clock in the morning. But that’s OK! I feel a sudden power coursing through my veins. It feels like … yes … yes it is! It is pure, unadulterated enthusiasm for Hornady Subsonic 45-70 Government ammunition!
This round’s brand name couldn’t be more literal. Its advertised 1,075 fps muzzle velocity (which was recorded with a 24” long test barrel) is indeed subsonic, and therefore doesn’t accompany ignition with the piercing crack that a suppressor isn’t designed to suppress. It kicks like a kitten, too!
The Sub-X is also aptly named. The 0.285 G1 BC bullet is designed to initiate terminal expansion at subsonic impact velocity – as low as 900 fps, by Hornady’s measure. Its flexible “Flex” Tip tip (which is absolutely safe for lever guns’ tubular magazines) squashes down when it connects with the quarry. That adds the extra force the Sub-X needs to widen out when it has relatively juice to work with.
