Ammo such as this powerful 45 ACP +P by Hornady! This cartridge’s chamber pressure is juicier than standard, hence its 185 grain bullet’s ability to hop out of a 5” barrel at a velocity faster than the speed of sound. Pros: flatter trajectory and amplified striking energy. Cons: heftier recoil and accelerated deterioration of the firearm (albeit not extremely much).

There are no downsides to this round’s bullet. The FTX is a premium jacketed hollow point, which penetrates to an effective depth and expands to an effective width for defensive applications. Its most salient feature – i.e. the little polymer column in its nose cavity – prevents the FTX from losing its ability to expand as a result of becoming impacted with debris. Very clever.

Hornady tops off this ammo’s new brass cases with flash-suppressed powder. It may still produce some flash, but not so much that you’ll find yourself unable to see after having fired into the nighttime.
