About This Wolf 5.45 x 39 Russian AmmunitionMilitary surplus is great when you can find it, but it’s not without its shortcomings. You may be rolling the dice when you buy ammo that’s been collecting dust in a Chechnyan warehouse for thirty years, and mil-surp corrosive primers do require a fair bit of special cleaning if you’re to prevent your rifle from looking like it has been stored on the RMS Titanic.
Fortunately Wolf Performance Ammunition offers factory fresh loads that leave far less to chance. This 5.45x39 cartridge will treat your AK-74 like a peach with its non-corrosive primer and clean burning propellant.
This round’s steel shell casing keeps its price tag nice and low. It sports a thin coating of polymer to reduce the kind of metal-on-metal contact that can cause feeding and extraction issues in a semi-auto (or full auto if you’re lucky). Unlike earlier lacquer applications, Wolf’s high tech polymer doesn’t melt off during ignition to needlessly foul up a rifle’s action!
This round’s 55 grain bullet is a hollow point, although it’s not designed to expand quite so dramatically as a pistol’s HP bullet would have. That’s not to suggest anything that comes out of an AK-74 isn’t going to leave a mark, of course. This bullet’s bimetal jacket does indeed contain steel, so ranges that prohibit magnetic projectiles will politely tell you to beat it if you show them this ammo.
