About This Hornady 7.62 x 39 Ammunition
DANG! We’ve seen a lot of crazy 7.62x39mm ammunition in our time, but this one takes the cake. The Hornady team heard that it’s common practice to load ~123 grain bullets and they said “To heck with that! We’re making this one’s bullet weight more than twice that much.”And they did. And the result is awesome, because it cannot break the sound barrier. That means a quieter report will slap your ear drums on ignition. That also means peak functionality with a suppressor. Three shots sound like this: pfft pfft pfft.
But wait. There’s more. This round’s bullet is the Sub-X: essentially a very large jacketed hollow point with a deep nose cavity and long-tailed polymer plug. The Sub-X resists clogging with debris on impact, and subsequently unleashes wide expansion even if it hits at low velocity – which it will, because this 0.365 G1 BC cartridge will have a triple-digit velocity by the time it reaches 100 yards (assuming a 20” or shorter barrel).
