This is the same type of 9mm ammunition the U.S. Army would issue for use with the XM17 and XM18 versions of the SIG Sauer P320. Great for target practice so long as your 9mm firearm is rated for overpressure ammo (aka +P)!

9mm M1152 ammunition is basically the Army’s answer to the moratorium on expanding bullets for international warfare. This cartridge’s full metal jacket projectile cannot deliver terminal expansion like a JHP can. But its abnormally fast 1,320 fps muzzle velocity does fling that 115 grain bullet hard. At 25 yards you’re talking about 380 ft lbs of kinetic energy, which is over 40 percent more powerful than the bare minimum typically recommended for personal protection. A flat nose bullet also gouges a more injurious wound channel, but if you’re only doing some range training then you’ll appreciate how neatly an FMJ FN cuts a hole through a paper target.

To be sure, you don’t share the Army’s obligation to exclusively fire non-expanding bullets, and as such this ammo isn’t the ideal choice for self-defense (especially when you want to minimize the risk of potentially disastrous over-penetration). But if you just want to train the same way American troops would fight, then Winchester’s new production (aka not military surplus) Active Duty ammo will scratch that itch!
