7.62x51mm Ammo – Federal – 149 Grain FMJ – 20 Rounds

Federal makes some of the best .308 and 7.62x51mm ammunition available to American shooters today. These rounds, produced at the Lake City Ammunition Plant, are no exception and are a great choice for the shooter looking to do some distance rifle plinking.

These rounds do contain a steel projectile as part of its military specifications. The brass in these rounds is also magnetic so if you shoot at a range that does not allow ammo which attracts a magnet, these rounds are not ideal for you.

With a full metal jacket projectile weighing in a 149 grain, you can expect muzzle velocities of little more than 2,700 feet per second and muzzle energy of about 2485 foot pounds.

Also, as part of the military specification, Federal is forced to leave evidence that the rounds have gone through the annealing process. As part of that process, you can see a ring of dark residue near the case neck. This doesn’t impact the reliability and the annealing process is actually in place to make the brass stronger and less brittle.
