About This Magtech 308 / 7.62x51 Ammunition
This is 7.62x51 ammo, which means it is also 308 ammo if you really want it to be. The two cartridges are so similar that they may be fired interchangeably. This is also range ammo, because its simple FMJ bullet isn’t designed to do anything fancy upon entering soft tissue. Realistically, though, 7.62x51 is powerful enough that its bullet doesn’t have to do much more than hit its target in order to neutralize it effectively.
Magtech loaded each 7.62x51 cartridge in this box of 50 with an M80 type bullet. That’s a 147 grain full metal jacket, an economical type of bullet that emphasizes smooth feeding and low fouling in a semi-auto. Its 2,740 fps muzzle velocity was recorded out of a 22” test barrel, so you can realistically expect a lower muzzle velocity out of an AR-10’s shorter barrel.
Magtech is based in Brazil. They don’t use any steel when they make their bullets – just good old-fashioned nonmagnetic lead and copper. They also load new production brass cases, so you can easily replace these rounds’ large rifle primers if you intend to reload them.
