Fiocchi’s first-run chilled lead shot, which is soaked in a cooling bath the instant following its formation into pellets, is extra hard and extra resilient against deformation as the result. Cushioned wads do even more to prevent the pellets from flattening during ignition, and they have the added benefit of preventing recoil energy from flattening your shoulder muscles (which we hear are enormous) as well.
