Hornady’s V-MAX bullet is way too effective at varmint and predator hunting for only one company to load it. That’s why Federal also got in on the V-MAX action! As such this 223 Rem cartridge is excellent for turning coyotes, woodchucks and prairie dogs into yesterday’s problems.

This cartridge’s V-MAX is two grains lighter than average. That’s enough weight reduction to amplify its muzzle velocity to 3,400 fps. The bullet owes its 0.290 G1 BC and resultant laserlike trajectory to its rotationally stable AMP jacket and swaged lead core, as well as its ballistically efficient polymer tip and profile which creates maximum bearing surface with the rifling.

The V-MAX will reliably expand at ranges far beyond 250 yards. That’s because its polymer tip acts sort of like a fuse. The instant it makes contact with the target, the tip burrows down into the core’s nose cavity until finally reaching the bottom. That’s when the V-MAX self-destructs, sending out little bits of lead and copper every which way.
