About This Federal 30-30 Winchester Ammunition
Folks, what we have here is a real no-brainer. If you’ve got (A) a 30-30 Win rifle, (B) a suppressor on the same, and (C) the intent to take it hunting, then you won’t find anything better than Federal Fusion Subsonic.• Suppressor: unable to muffle a sonic boom, no matter how well it’s designed.
• Federal Fusion Subsonic: unable to produce a sonic boom courtesy of its 1,000 fps muzzle velocity.
That’s the primary feature of this ammo. It’s optimized for suppressor functionality, and will treat you to your quietest gunshots to date. You’ll feel splendidly soft recoil while you’re at it.
The bullet (which is slow owing to its smaller propellant charge, and not its ordinary 170 grain weight) is a bonded soft point. It’s by no means a juggernaut. Its muzzle energy is outclassed by a 1911 .45 Auto, as a matter of fact. But it is tough, and resistant to fragmentation that leads to shallow penetration, and engineered for expansion as well. Tuck one into a hog’s lung and see what happens next.
You’ve probably already gathered as much, but this round’s subsonic muzzle velocity certainly doesn’t precede a flat trajectory. There’s steep bullet drop. We calculated it for you: 0yds, -1.5; 50yds, 3.9”; 100yds, 0.0”; 150yds, -13.7”; 200yds, -37.7”.
