This round’s lead-free bullet is one of Hornady’s own design. The Copper alloy eXpanding (CX) is compliant with certain jurisdictions’ draconian hunting ammo laws, so you can freely fire it wherever your adventure takes you. It is also a good deal tougher than a normal lead-core bullet, and therefore promises to lose no more than 5% of its weight as it stabs deep into the quarry. The CX’s rigid polymer tip accelerates terminal expansion in the meantime!

That’s no ordinary polymer tip. It is the Heat Shield, which ends in a special DVRT flat meplat that reduces dispersion and equalizes drag, and which is immune deformation in response to aerodynamic friction. That and the CX’s optimum groove geometry add up to a pretty impressive 0.418 G1 ballistic coefficient. And because a Superformance round’s muzzle velocity is boosted to 2,900 fps (out of a 24” barrel), this round is able to sink almost 1,200 ft lbs of energy into a 500-yard buck. Far out!
