Some folks say there’s no such thing as “stopping power.” That’s because a lot of variables come into play when you’re firing a handgun – not least of which is your marksmanship. Remington calls this round’s bullet a “jacketed soft point.” We just call it a soft point, since the jacket is already integral to the SP’s design. The bullet’s jacket prevents its lead core from rubbing across the rifling, which does a lot to reduce fouling and sustain better accuracy. The bullet’s malleable lead core flattens out when it presses against soft tissue. Even though it doesn’t have a nose cavity, the .357 cal bullet can still widen out to about 0.7” in diameter before coming to a halt inside (or on the other side) of its target.

This round’s Kleanbore Boxer primer and low-fouling powder give its 158 grain bullet an advertised muzzle velocity of 1,235 fps.
