Developed by Federal in 2002 as a premium duty round, this 40 S&W ammo is engineered to expand and penetrate with devastating effect without sacrificing accuracy. Once word spread about how terminally effective the new HST bullets were, demand soared and Federal opened up sales to the public by marketing these rounds as premium self-defense ammo.

Each 40 S&W cartridge is fitted with a 180 grain HST jacketed hollow point (JHP) bullet that features Federal's patented skiving on the hollow point that ensures predictable six petal expansion. Rather than chemically bonding these bullets, Federal locks the jacket to the core by crimping the shank for improved weight retention and ultimate penetration. Federal uses Boxer-primed brass casings for these 40 S&W cartridges, all new-production and reloadable.
