Federal Premium’s Personal Defense HST line of ammunition is exactly the same as their Law Enforcement series ammo. There is only one difference between this 9mm +P ammo (product # P9HST3S) and the LE branded equivalent (product # P9HST3). It is the box.

The HST jacketed hollow point is engineered to satisfy the FBI’s standards for defensive bullet performance. According to Federal’s own ballistic data, once this round’s 124 grain JHP has cleared a 4” barrel’s muzzle at a velocity of 1,200 fps and struck a block of ballistic gel positioned 15’ downrange, it will penetrate to a depth of 10” and expand to a diameter of 0.870”. The HST owes its 100% weight retention following penetration of bare gel (and even plywood) to its exceptionally durable jacket, and its capacity for reliable expansion to its specially engineered anti-obstruction hollow point nose cavity.

This ammunition features low-friction and corrosion-resistant nickel-plated brass cases, as well as propellant that minimizes muzzle flash to help the shooter maintain their eyesight’s acclimation to a dark environment. 9mm +P ammo is overpressure; it boasts superior striking energy to a standard pressure equivalent, but it is not suitable for antiques or other firearms that aren’t rated to safely run +P.
